In Case You Missed It... The Week of May 16, 2005
Elizabeth Naramore
Let's see what's been happening the past week:
php|tropics Wrap-Up
Yet another fabulous PHP Conference that I was unable to attend has wrapped
up, and you can get all the scoop from the speakers:
Free T-shirt from Zend
According to a blog post from John Coggleshall earlier in the week, Zend is
giving away free t-shirts for evaluating the Zend Platform and filling out a
survey. While there is nothing on the Zend site confirming this, you can read
John's blog entry here: http://blog.coggeshall.org/archives/198_Want_a_free_PHP_T-shirt.html.
Another Bug Fix for phpBB
If you haven't upgraded to 2.0.14 yet, don't worry. There is now a 2.0.15
that includes one more bug fix. If you have already upgraded, you can make the
quick change yourself. Details can be found at http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=290149.
PHP Advanced Transfer Manager Security Alert
If you're using this software, you should be aware of a recent alert from
Secunia. A highly critical bug, which is yet unpatched, exists, preying on
unvalidated file types. For more information, read the advisory from Secunia at
http://secunia.com/advisories/15279/.
WordPress v. 1.5.1 Released
Developers of WordPress have announced the release of the latest in this
popular blog software: version 1.5.1 is available for immediate download.
Upgrades include bug fixes and a major security fix, as well as new API hooks
and functionality. To read more about what's new, go to http://wordpress.org/development/.
George Schlossnagle Shows us WSDL from a PHP5 Class
There was an interesting blog entry from George Schlossnagle, which gives us
a sneak peek to WSDL_Gen. This is basically a PHP5 class that generates WSDL
(Web Services Description Language). Read more about this and download the class
(still in Alpha state) at http://www.schlossnagle.org/~george/blog/index.php?/archives/234-WSDL-Generation.html
or WSDL at http://www.w3.org/TR/wsdl.
Open Source Event's PHP Security Conference Announced
This one-day fun-filled seminar touts some big names in PHP and Open Source
Security: Bruce Perens, Chris Shiflett, Christian Wenz, Tom Robinson, and Chris
Hubbard. Cost is $150, it will be held on June 11, 2005, and you can register or
read more about it by going to http://store.osevents.com/product_info.php?products_id=1.
O'Reilly Announces the First Annual EuroOSCON
This conference will be held on October 17-20, 2005 in Amsterdam. If you
think you know your stuff, the CFP comes with a May 23rd deadline. For more
info, go to http://conferences.oreillynet.com/cs/eurooscon/create/e_sess
(I wonder if they know that Zend's conference is October 18-21...
interesting).
PEAR/PECL releases
Latest PEAR releases include:
And at PECL were:
As always, you can download or learn more about these packages at http://pear.php.net/ and http://pecl.php.net/.
