Subject: how to configure php

Hi,

Iam new to php I have installed Apache server into my system and also php and mysql too.Its a package of these three things, now Iam not able to understand how to make use of php so that I can run the php code.And I have tried to run a program by typing it in a notepad but its able to execute in a web browser.Can anyone explain me what exactly I need to do to run PHP in my system (OS - WinXP).
