By: vaaaska Profile Subject: Updated the article Thanks for all the feedback on this article. Yes, there were some things that needed to be adjusted and there was also a rather large typo (an extra tip number five) that should not have seen the light of day. My fault. Originally, this article was going to be called 'Problems of Style' and somewhere along the path I took it down to just ten tips - it became more complex than I wanted. From the comments that are being posted it seems clear to myself that I was probably on the right track in the first place. Everybody has their own style - and this can be a problem for new programmers. While the rules are not difficult to understand, it can be very confusing trying to determine why a person will use single quotes versus double quotes ($array['id'] vs. $array["id"}). Both work, but I was taught from the beginning that double quotes are for parsing...and this too is a problem of style. Anyways, I feel that the ensuing discussion should be good for new programmers to read - and I hope they do. ;) |
