$var = $_POST['name']; // ok
$var = "$_POST[name]"; // ok, but double quotes are not necessary
$var = $_POST["name"]; // will not work

I believe you mixed up the comments from the 2nd and 3rd var, although the $_POST[name] will still work, but is not recommended as it might be mistaken for a constant, nonetheless still work.
