Theoretically you've got a point here. The way to store data as you explain here is brilliant. You are not the first to think about it however.

In real life :
1.Your anti-base is going to be very slow if you use directories to traverse the b-tree-ish structure, so rather store it in a triangular shaped file (think binary XML).
2.You have every column sorted (clustered index). Very fast for reading, very slow for writing. Effectively you are storing the data in columns, not rows (patented by Sybase IQ)
3.You don't store duplicates, reducing IO, smells like a bitmapped index.

My advice is open a sourceforge project and don't say to much until you have a few benchmark results, because you are describing a database, sucker.
