php4 *will* work with apache2, but only as a cgi binary. the apache2 sapi module with php4 (php4apache2.dll) is still unstable. the php docs will tell you how to install so that scripts run through php.exe instead.
im running apache 2.0.42, php 4.3.0 on win2k (with mysql aswell).
