Alternatively rather than using stylesheet.css.php or stylesheetcss.php you could always call it stylesheet.css and set-up MIME types to make .css PHP Exec.

In note to the "How is this better than..." thread.
From discussion on webmasterworld.com/forum3 it was generally agreed that external Javascript and CSS were better.
