Personally, I've never seen anyone try this before:
<STYLE SRC="stylesheet.css.php" TYPE="text/css">

I was always lead to believe there was only 2 ways to source (import) an external stylesheet:

<LINK HREF="stylesheet.css.php" TYPE="text/css">

and

<STYLE TYPE="text/css">
@import url("stylesheet.css.php");
</STYLE>

I have sucessfully used a mix of Tim's PHP-CSS article (which creates the actual CSS), and used both ways of importing the created stylesheet. (Actually, I use Tim's code to create 3 stylesheets for the screen, print, and to maintain the flow - speech).

I hope this helps...
